PROTECTIVE GEAR

When purchasing protective gear, please consider the following to ensure your student is set up for success. Safety is SK8 GYM's #1 priority, we take it very seriously. Your student deserves to feel safest when learning or improving their skating. 

Knee/ Elbow Pads, Wrist Guards & Bumsavers:
SK8 GYM recommend brand 187 Killer Pads or Moxi Pads for knee/ elbow pads and wrist guards. These are by far the highest quality pads available on the market in terms of both safety and comfort. They are sold as a 3-pack (knee/ elbow pads and wrist guards). We also recommend Triple 8 brand wrist guards if you only need wrist guards. Triple 8 brand skate bumsavers is a solid choice for those worried about tailbone/ hip falls.
‍Getting sized for pads is important for proper fit and overall safety and comfort.
Typical sizing below:
Ages 7  and younger: Junior
Ages 8-10 : XS, or S/M
ages 11-14 : S/M, or L/XL  
Ages: 14+: S/M or L/XL

Skate Helmets:
‍SK8 GYM recommends Triple 8 brand skate helmets, specifically the Certified Sweat Saver models. These are high quality and comfortable helmets can accommodate a couple of different sizes! Helmets should fit to just above the eyebrows for maximum protection. Bike helmets typically don't provide the same high-level protection as skate helmets. While bike helmets are acceptable, SK8 GYM recommends skate helmets for maximum safety.

Protective Gear Rentals:
‍Quality protective gear can cost $90-$120. Protective gear is available for rent, especially for those initial lessons to try before you buy. Pad rentals are also available for times when students arrive to their lessons missing one or more pieces of protection.
